Recap
From 2023 to 2025, a series of sessions on international relations and tech geopolitics has run continuously at Cambridge, with more than 150 sessions completed to date. These sessions have featured internationally influential scholars, policy researchers, and experts across related fields, covering China-US relations, shifts in the global order, the impact of technology on global politics and security, and the challenges and opportunities of emerging technology. The programme has built a growing international network of experts, providing faculty support for future online programmes and focused lectures aimed at Chinese entrepreneurs, students, and professionals.
Format
Guest conversations and roundtable discussions are held regularly throughout the programme, bringing together scholars and industry practitioners from Cambridge and other academic institutions. These exchanges span cross-disciplinary topics including AI ethics, design innovation, tech policy, and geopolitics.
Students can choose to sit in online and take in the atmosphere of a genuine academic discussion, or actively join in with questions and comments. Each session opens up roughly ten opportunities for questions, encouraging students to engage directly with guests. Past sessions like these have drawn in a good number of scholars and senior practitioners to join the discussion, with participants coming from a range of backgrounds and fields that make the conversation richer and more varied.
These guest conversations are an important complement to the core coursework. They give students a window into how scholars and practitioners actually think through problems and respond to differing views, and expose students to a wider range of topics and perspectives beyond the formal curriculum.
The topic and guest information for each conversation is announced in advance, so students can choose to attend based on their own interests. All sessions run on an online platform, making it easy for students across different time zones to take part.
What You'll Get
By taking part in this programme, students get to hear directly from widely influential scholars and industry figures in international politics, technology, and policy as they share their first-hand observations and thinking — helping students grasp the latest developments at the frontier of international policy and AI, and build sharper judgment about where things are headed.
At the same time, this series of exchanges builds a rich, continuously growing international network. Contact and conversation with scholars, practitioners, and policy researchers often bring insight and opportunity beyond what you'd expect — value that frequently extends well past the coursework itself.
It's worth noting that discussions and guest conversations of this kind are known for their high bar for entry and their privacy — participants are typically carefully selected, and the content isn't open to the public. This programme offers students a rare channel into this relatively closed but highly valuable academic and professional circle.
Given that each cohort has limited spots, prospective participants are encouraged to register early to secure a place.
