Standard Track Details
Most online programmes at name-brand institutions are lecture-first, and students often walk away with little more than a certificate of participation. This programme is designed differently: ethics isn't a standalone chapter, it's the lens applied throughout. Click any section below for the specifics.
Professor lectures + TA seminars, four project tracks covering different academic backgrounds.
The professor personally teaches the ethical frameworks and applications, focused on the core content and case breakdowns — these 12 hours aren't taken up by Q&A.
Humanities, business, design, and law/policy each have a matching track. No coding background required to fully participate.
A letter of recommendation carries weight because the professor genuinely knows each student's project — a small class size is what makes that possible.
Building on each week's professor lecture, close reading of cases and hands-on practice reinforce what's learned, with two rounds of written feedback throughout — complementing the professor's 12 hours.
Taught personally by a Cambridge professor.
This programme is taught personally by a Cambridge Assistant Professor in Design — see this cohort's details for specifics.
Four weeks, one throughline: professor lectures + TA seminars each week, ethics and application interwoven.
3 hours of professor lectures + 3 hours of TA seminars each week, with ethics and application interwoven throughout. From week three on, the focus shifts noticeably toward "how do I finish my project."
Four tracks — pick one and see it through, completing a showcase project within four weeks.
Every track draws on both the ethics and application threads, completed independently outside class with TA feedback. The common deliverable format is "one concrete analysis or piece of work + a reflection," so that in four weeks you produce something complete and genuinely showable.
Calculate the difference in false-positive rates across groups, explain the fairness metric you chose and why, and propose improvements.
Define your own research question, use AI tools to help draft a literature review and methodology, then reflect on where AI genuinely helped and where it couldn't be trusted.
Iterate repeatedly on prompts with an AI image tool, documenting what changed in each version and why.
Lay out the background of an incident, set out the positions of companies, regulators, and job applicants, and give your own policy recommendation.
Walk away with three things: a certificate of completion, a professor's letter of recommendation (performance-dependent), and your complete project.
The exact name and wording of the certificate and recommendation letter are subject to the authorisation documents issued by Cambridge.
A certificate of completion issued at the college level. Awarded on completing the four-week programme and submitting your project-track assignment.
Written and signed by the professor based on your actual performance and output in the course. TAs compile all student projects for the professor in week four. Awarded to standout students — it isn't a standard part of every student's package.
The analysis report, research proposal, design work, or policy brief you independently complete over four weeks, along with your accompanying reflection and process notes. Ready to use directly in application materials.

One quarter, 12 weeks: a lead professor builds the framework, with guest professors' focused sessions woven in.
A lead professor builds the overall framework, with different guest professors teaching content from their own fields throughout the quarter. The specific lead professor, guest speakers, and schedule are subject to the university's confirmation (to be determined).
The range guest sessions might cover — specific topics and speakers are to be determined.
The following are for reference only — specific topics and speakers are subject to the university's confirmation (to be determined).
Foundational AI literacy and technical principles, for every academic background.
Understanding the construction logic and use cases of generative AI from a product perspective.
An in-depth look at AI-related research methods and ethical questions.
Attendance alone isn't enough — a certificate requires passing an assessment or written reflection.
Each quarter ends with an assessment: 10 objective questions (out of 100 points, 40 to pass).
A passing score earns you that quarter's certificate of completion directly; if you don't pass, you can submit a written reflection ("What I Took From This Course") instead — passing that also earns you the certificate.
The certificate's exact name, wording, and issuance are subject to Cambridge's final review (to be determined).
FAQ
No. The technical-foundations portion in week one is designed for every academic background. Of the four project tracks, only some involve using tools — none require you to write code.
The professor teaches entirely in English. We provide pre-class materials and after-class support in Chinese, but you'll need to participate in English during class discussion. IELTS 5.5 or an equivalent level is recommended.
No. The letter is written by the professor based on your actual output, for standout students. We won't promise one to everyone — that's precisely what gives it value.
TAs lead an additional 12 hours of small-group seminars, building on each week's professor lecture with close reading of cases and hands-on practice, collecting first drafts and giving a first round of written feedback in week three, and compiling final drafts to hand off to the professor in week four. The professor's 12 hours stay untouched by this.
Recordings are provided for playback, with availability specified in the pre-course information packet. That said, live participation factors into the letter of recommendation, so attending live is recommended where possible.
No. Any programme claiming to guarantee admission is worth being skeptical of. What this course gives you is a genuine learning experience and a showable piece of work — how you use that in your applications depends on your overall materials.
No credit is awarded. This is an academic-enrichment programme that issues a certificate of completion, not credit toward any degree or university course.
